4 Big Mistakes Leading To MUSCLE Loss When Dieting

It’s common to be WORRIED about losing muscle when following a fat-loss diet.
This gets overblown.

Most people have more fat to lose than they think when they start a cut, so it’s a bit of a mindf*ck to see the scale going down further.

Plus, you’ll lose some size in your muscles from lower muscle glycogen. This can easily get fixed.

But…Losing muscle CAN become a problem if you’re making these 4 mistakes:

1. Lifting light weights.

Heavy lifting (like you would build muscle) is crucial during fat loss. It tells your body, “I need to hold onto this lean muscle mass.” So, push the weight.

2. Low protein intake.

Eat at least 1g of protein per 1lb of bodyweight during a fat loss cut. This keeps you FULL and preserves lean muscle tissue.

3. Not Getting Enough Sleep

This is crazy: a 2010 study looked at two groups of people who followed the same style of diet for 2 weeks.

One group slept for 8.5 hrs and the other 5.5 hours.

They lost the same amount of weight, but the group that go 8.5 hrs lost ALL body weight.

The group that slept 5.5 hours lost 60% more muscle–over time, this is a huge (negative) difference in calorie expenditure and appearance.

4. Too aggressive of a diet.

When you diet too aggressively, you SPIKE cortisol, a plateau with fat loss, and lose a ton of muscle.

While going HARD AF, in the beginning, might feel helpful with your diet, it’s only going to lead to LONG term plateaus.

A better option? Gradually reduce calories, keep your muscle, and look good naked.

Everyone wants to stay strong, lean, and healthy as they get older–but are you really consuming enough protein for that to happen? If you’re like most people, the answer is no.Here’s the problem: Protein synthesis drops with age. Sarcopenia, the age-related decline in lean muscle, increases as well. When you lose lean muscle, you lose functional capacity, your appearance changes–hey, saggy skin–and your metabolic rate slows down–making it easier to add body fat.Getting lots of protein–around...

It’s not impossible to build muscle once you turn 30, but it does get harder. If you’re dead serious about changing your physique, you’ll need to make changes to your approach. No, I don’t mean starting a keto diet 🤭, cold shower, or any of that guru sh*t 😐 The biggest step is to pick one direction at a time: build muscle OR lose fat.Trying to do both is like blowing your hair while standing under the shower. Building muscle only gets harder (but more important) as you get older. To build...
